Motion

Motion turns a description into an animated clip: a title that fades in, a lower third, an animated chart, a background loop. Plinken writes the animation as code, renders it live in a preview, and bakes it to a video file you place on a Motion track on the Grid.

Generating uses AI and charges Plin. See Plans & credits.

  1. Open Motion in the sidebar and press New composition. Give it a name in the title field.
  2. In the Prompt tab, describe the clip. The placeholder suggests the level of detail: “animated chapter title that fades in over 0.5s…”.
  3. Press Generate. The preview updates as soon as the code arrives.
  4. Not right yet? Type what should change and press Refine. History keeps every prompt you sent for this composition so you can go back.

The Library tab holds starting points. Seed from template copies one into your composition so you can refine from there instead of starting blank.

  • Props — the values the composition exposes: titles, colours, speeds. Change them without touching the code.
  • Show code / Split: canvas + code — open the generated code next to the preview and edit it directly. Console shows runtime messages and errors.
  • The preview transport plays, pauses and scrubs the clip.
  • Show safety zones (90% / 95%) overlays title-safe and action-safe guides.
  • Import composition (.composition.json) and Export composition (.composition.json) move a composition between projects or share it.

The Output section sets what the bake produces:

SettingOptions
Durationlength of the clip in seconds
Resolution and FPSfollow the project defaults; change them under Settings → Video
FormatH.264 MP4 — universal, no alpha or VP9 WebM — smaller, alpha if supported

Pick WebM when the clip needs a transparent background to sit over video. Pick MP4 for anything that must play everywhere.

Press Bake MP4 to assets (or Bake WebM to assets). The clip is rendered frame by frame and saved into your space. The button changes to Re-bake to assets after a change, and to Use Cached MP4 → when a bake for the current state already exists.

To put it on the timeline:

  1. Open the Grid and add a Motion track with the + button.
  2. Open the browser panel and choose Motion. Baked clips are listed; Open Motion editor takes you back.
  3. Drag the clip onto the motion track.

A Motion track plays like a video track and shows up in the video monitor as a Motion Track layer, so you can composite it over your footage. Bakes also work as Video Track layers if you prefer.

The code is written by the model chosen as Motion model under Settings → AI. The default is Plinky’s own model; you can switch to another provider and bring your own key there. Generation runs in the background and keeps going if you switch tabs.
