Rendering & export

Rendering happens in the Bounce panel, opened from the transport bar. It renders the program output of the video monitor together with the project mix. Rendering video needs the Pro plan or higher; audio-only bounces are available on every plan.

TypeOutput

Video + audioMP4 · H.264 + AAC
Video onlyMP4 · H.264
Original qualitythe original clip, cut, not re-rendered

Pick Time to type a start and end in seconds, or Bars/Beats to enter the range musically. The default range runs from the project start to the end marker. Audio bounces render slightly past the end so reverbs can ring out, then trim trailing silence.

For video exports the panel shows tiles that match the canvas aspect ratio you set in the video monitor:

CanvasTiles
LandscapeYouTube, Vimeo, Video file
PortraitTikTok, YouTube Shorts (vertical · ≤ 3 min), Instagram Reels, Video file
SquareInstagram, Video file

The tiles are guidance. Every tile renders the same MP4; they remind you of the target’s shape and length limits. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

  • HD — 1080p, the one-tap default.
  • Hi-Res 4K — best quality.
  • Custom — resolution (short side 720 to 2160), frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 or 60), codec and bitrate.

Resolution presets: 1080p · 30fps · 16:9, 1080p · 60fps · 16:9, Vertical · 1080×1920 · 9:16, Square · 1080×1080 · 1:1 and 4K · 30fps · 16:9. Orientation always follows the canvas; a preset only chooses the pixel count.

ProRes 422MOVvia Plinken Run on macOS
ProRes 4444MOVvia Plinken Run on macOS

With Plinken Run connected, the render runs on your computer with the hardware encoders. Without it, the browser renders H.264.

Audio formats: WAV (lossless master), M4A (AAC 320 kbps · streaming & sharing) and MP3 (320 kbps · universal compatibility).

The Original quality type cuts the original file of a clip instead of re-rendering it. Untouched frames are copied as they are; only the short run around each cut is re-encoded. Use it to deliver footage at source quality, or to hand a trimmed original to another tool.

  • In the browser it needs Chrome, Edge or Safari 17+. With Plinken Run it works everywhere.
  • One clip per export. The same command is on the region’s right-click menu as Export original quality….

The panel shows progress by phase. Rendering keeps going when you switch tabs. When it finishes you see the stats of the render with Download and Save to space, which uploads the file into your project assets so peers can use it and you can host it from Streams.

The video monitor’s Bounce master via runner button opens Bounce Master (Runner), a second render path that needs Plinken Run. It renders the program scene natively with these codecs:

CodecHint
H.264MP4 · delivery
ProRes 422MOV · broadcast
ProRes 422 HQMOV · mastering
ProRes 4444MOV · alpha

ProRes needs a macOS runner; a Windows runner renders H.264 and the ProRes chips say “macOS runner only”.

Options:

  • Place on timeline — register the result as an imported clip, with a scrub proxy and thumbnails, and put it on a video track.
  • Include audio — add the project mix: AAC for H.264, 24-bit PCM for ProRes.

If the app and the runner disagree on the render version, the panel asks you to update Plinken Run before it starts. See Updates.

Text, caption, Lottie, 3D scene and camera layers render transparent on the runner; render scenes that need them from the Bounce panel in the browser.
